Pet food and treats need a heavier-gauge stand-up pouch with a resealable zip, usually in matte white or kraft with a grease-resistant barrier liner. Treats are oily and often sharp-edged, and feed bags get dragged around, so seal strength and puncture resistance matter more here than in most food categories.
Specify a thicker laminate than you would for a comparable human-food product. Dried meat treats have hard edges that work at a thin film during transit, and a 2kg feed bag lifted by its top seal puts real load on the seal. A heavier gauge costs slightly more per unit and prevents a much more expensive failure.
Grease is the second issue. Oily treats will stain through a paper-faced pouch without a proper grease-resistant liner, which looks like a quality failure on shelf even when the product is fine. Say what the fat content is like and we will spec the liner accordingly.
Pet retail leans heavily on peg display for treats, so a hang hole is worth adding on smaller packs. Larger feed bags are shelf-stacked and do not need it.

- A resealable stand-up pouch around 150 × 230mm in a heavier gauge with a grease-resistant liner. Add a hang hole if your retailer uses peg display, which most pet shops do for treats.
- Will oily treats stain the pouch?
- Not with a grease-resistant liner specified. Without one, oil migrates into a paper-faced laminate and shows as dark patches on the outside within weeks. Tell us the fat content when you enquire.
- How big can a pet food pouch be?
- Up to around 2–3kg is comfortable in a stand-up pouch. Above that, the weight starts to stress the seal when the pack is lifted, and a heavier gauge plus a wider gusset becomes necessary.
- Can I show the treats through the pack?
- Yes — a window is common in pet retail because piece size and shape genuinely influence the purchase. Keep the window off any area where grease might migrate and it will stay clear.
